Course Overview
Please note: A last minute vacancy has become available in this November course at the same time as a similar vacancy was filled in the October course.
Mortise and tenon joinery has been in use for centuries and this joint continues to be one of the most useful in the cabinet makers repertoire. Although there are now mechanical methods for making a similar joint using the Domino machine, not everyone has access to this equipment. Furthermore the standard mortise and tenon is still regarded as a stronger joint than a slip tenon. There are a number of different ways of executing the joint and in this course we will cover some of the more common methods, including the use of the bandsaw and table saw. However most attention will be given to hand cut joinery. We will also discuss the application of mortise and tenon joinery in cabinetmaking, including frame and panel construction.
James Krenov designed a workshop stand which is lightweight, stores easily and is incredibly useful around any workshop. It can also be used as a portable bench with a shelf and can easily carry half a cube or more of timber. In this course you will make a pair of stands, using different methods of mortise and tenon construction.
